A Brief History of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte
Tyendinaga was established in 1784 after Mohawks allied with the British during the
American Revolution. Originally 92,700 acres (about 145 square miles), only about 18,000
acres (less than 20%) remains, today, due to colonial encroachment, illegal land sales, and government expropriation.

Speaker: Steven Lindsay-Maracle has been a researcher with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte
for over five years, primarily working on land claims, community history, harvesting, fishing
and hunting applications and genealogy. Before this, he was an Early Childhood Educator
for over 30 years. He is now studying to be a Professional Genealogist with the
International Institute of Genealogical Studies. He is also Music Director/Organist for The
Presbyterian Church, Deseronto, and Grace United Church, Napanee.
